Arabian Nights

1 Sep

Today whilst in my favourite antiques store, I stumbled across this fabulous bag and the inspiration it has given me is absolutely endless!

For those of you that saw Sex and The City 2, you’ll have seen that Patricia Field thoroughly embraced the Arabian Nights feel; cue an abundance of lush fabrics, luxe outfits, beads and of course Harem Pants! And whilst Harem Pants have played a prominent role in this year’s S/S collections – not to mention their appearance on the television, celebrities, the runway and much more, they are undoubtedly one of the toughest looks!

Harem’s are here to stay and here I’m going to show you how to work them!

The rules of The Harem;

-Harem’s are a bold statement; best to go with something simple and understated; bandeau’s work best but in today’s StyleBITE we’re using a vest.

-Harem’s elongate the thigh and shorten the calf; this means they can make your legs look small, so make sure you accessorize with a pair of heels – at least 2.5”!

Look 1

This look is perfect for keeping it understated; the scarf detracts from the wide hip of the Harem pant, and the small bag draws from the bold pattern of the scarf; these accessories even each other out and this look is perfect for dinner with the girls. I’m also rocking the up-and-coming bun in my hair!

Look 2

This I like to call the Puerto Banus take on the Harem Pant; bold accessories (abundance of bangles – check, statement necklace – check!) and a largely-oversized bag ties the accessories together neatly, whilst the shoes add the all-essential height. For this look I’ve kept my hair loose and shaggy so that the main focus is on the bag and the accessories!

The fun in Harem’s is that their diversity is endless – whether they’re patterned, tailored, widened … there’s a way to work them; whether that’s with heaps of accessories, an understated scarf or just a plan bandeau top to lay the focus on the Harem Pant – and the best news is that they always make you look like some form of Arabian princess – beautiful!

Don’t forget to send me pics of YOU working Harems (my e-mail is on my contact page!)

Love,
